Top Tips for a Stress-Free Field Trip

Planning to take a group of young people on a trip somewhere? This can be a great bonding exercise, whether you’re taking a dance club to a national competition or simply taking your class on an educational day out in your local area. They can really be a lot of fun - both children and adults often enjoy the excitement of an excursion. However, you’ll also have the responsibility of keeping them safe while they’re under your supervision.

Here are a few tips to ensure your journey goes smoothly.

Establish Ground Rules from the Start

Before you leave the parking lot, you need to make certain every single person knows what the rules are and what the consequences are for breaking them. For example, you may have a strict no toys or no alcohol rule (depending on the age of the group) and the consequence of being caught with prohibited items could be having to return home immediately or be excluded from future trips. Be sure they know what is expected of them.

Allow Some Free Time

Be sure to let the teenagers enjoy some chill time. This means you shouldn’t book every second of the trip and leave some breathing room for just hanging out in the common area of the hotel and talking. You may even let them take a walk or do some calming activities, but allow those who don’t wish to participate to go back to their rooms or do something else. Downtime is important.

Hand Out Schedules

Whether you do this electronically or on paper, make sure everyone has a copy. They should be old enough to look at it and figure out when they need to meet up with the group. This also reduces the number of questions that will be asked of the chaperones.

Rent a Vehicle

Not only is it best to rent a vehicle that can handle the wear and tear that comes with road trips, but you will also end up with more space this way. Vehicle rental can also provide more freedom than enlisting the help of a bus driver or requiring countless chaperones to drive themselves and the children.

There are usually also plenty of options available, so you will be able to select a vehicle and rental plan that suits your group and the requirements of the trip. It can be particularly helpful to have an extra seat or two so you can move people around if needed, though it’s best to keep everyone in the same vehicle where possible.

A rental vehicle will also save your own vehicles from enduring a long and potentially tough trip. With petrol prices on the rise, it’s also better to drive just one vehicle instead of multiple cars with a few people in each one.

If you’re looking for a good rental vehicle that will hold your entire group, take a look at the options available here at Chief Vehicle Rentals. We offer vans and mini-vans that are ideal for moving plenty of people around with ease. Contact us on 0121 726 4804 (Midlands) or 01803 520494 (Torbay) today to discuss your options.
