What to Bring With You When Hiring a Vehicle

So, you’ve organised your vehicle hire and the time is coming for you to pick it up, but what do you need to bring? The last thing you want is to forget important information and not be able to continue with your hire arrangements. The key is to be prepared.

In this blog, we discuss some of the things that you should bring when going to hire a car.

Driving licence

If you’re picking up a hire car then, of course, you need your driving licence, but you’d be surprised how often people forget! As the main driver, whose name the booking is under, your licence will confirm who you are and if you’re adding an additional driver make sure they are present with their licence too.

DVLA licence information

Since your driving licence card does not show information about penalties or conviction, car hire companies may ask for more details. For example, a printed summary of your licence information at DVLA online – you’ll need your driving licence number, national insurance number and home address postcode. You can also get a licence check code which lasts 21 days. The hire company can then check your driving record.

Proof of address

You may be asked for proof of address so bring more than one such as a utility bill or bank statement. It should clearly include the main driver’s name.

The credit or debit card you booked with

If you paid for your hire duration beforehand, you will need to take the credit or debit card that you used. This information is usually used t double check the booking and kept on record in case of any accidents or damage that you are responsible for.

Confirmation email or booking voucher

Always take your booking voucher along with you or a copy of your confirmation email. You can then present this to the hire company when you arrive and you everything can be processed much quicker. It’s also useful to have this information if anything were to go wrong, so you can your booking can be retrieved quicker.
